Building Wonder: Berglund Construction Helps Bring the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry’s Newest Exhibit to Life

For generations, the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry (GMSI) has inspired curiosity, creativity, and innovation for visitors from across Chicago and around the world and Berglund Construction is proud to help bring that experience to life.

Our team recently played a key role in delivering the museum’s newest permanent exhibit, Powering the Future, an immersive experience designed to explore the many forms of energy that shape our everyday lives. From interactive educational features to the exhibit’s showstopping 33-foot slide, this project represents the kind of imaginative, one-of-a-kind spaces that make the museum such an iconic destination.

The exhibit blends science, technology, and hands-on learning in a way that sparks excitement for guests of all ages. Whether it is local families visiting for the weekend or travelers experiencing Chicago for the first time, these spaces are designed to create unforgettable moments.

“Projects like this remind us why we love what we do,” said Jeff Berglund, President. “To help create spaces that inspire curiosity, education, and excitement for generations of visitors is incredibly meaningful to our team. GMSI continues to be one of Chicago’s most treasured institutions, and we are honored to play a role in shaping its future.”

“It is rewarding to see an exhibit come to life that will create such memorable experiences for families and visitors,” said Bonnie Griffin, Senior Project Manager. “From the interactive elements to the energy behind the design itself, this project challenged our team in the best ways and reflects the creativity and collaboration that went into every detail.”

The Powering the Future exhibit is one of several museum and cultural projects Berglund Construction has helped deliver throughout the region. At the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, our team also partnered on the internationally recognized Blue Paradox exhibit space, an immersive experience focused on ocean conservation and environmental awareness.

Beyond Chicago, Berglund helped transform the historic Waukegan Carnegie Library into a renewed community and exhibit space, carefully preserving the building’s historic character while modernizing it for future generations. Our team has also proudly supported projects connected to the Art Institute of Chicago, contributing to spaces that continue to shape Chicago’s cultural landscape.

From museums and libraries to historic preservation and immersive exhibits, Berglund Construction remains committed to building environments that educate, inspire, and connect communities through meaningful experiences.
