This past weekend, Indiana Landmarks hosted its annual Rescue Party at the Indiana Landmarks Center. The evening, inspired by Chicago’s iconic 1933 World's Fair Chicago, celebrated the restoration of the legendary House of Tomorrow, named this year’s featured success story.
Berglund Construction was proud to support both the event and the mission it represents. As the general contractor for the Indiana Dunes National Park project, our team played a key role in bringing the House of Tomorrow back to life. Being selected as the featured success story is a meaningful recognition of the effort, craftsmanship, and care our team put into the restoration and something we are incredibly proud of.
“Projects like the House of Tomorrow are why we love what we do. It is about honoring the past while making sure these spaces can continue to inspire for years to come. We are proud to have played a part in bringing it back to life,” stated Jeff Berglund.
Originally designed by George Fred Keck, the House of Tomorrow introduced ideas that would shape modern living, including expansive glass walls, open planning, and integrated technology.
The recently completed restoration marks a major milestone in a decades long effort led by Indiana Landmarks in partnership with the National Park Service. Supported by funding through the Great American Outdoors Act, the work focused on stabilizing the structure, restoring the signature glass facade, and repairing the concrete foundation to return the home to its historic 1934 appearance.
During the Rescue Party, guests gathered for a curated cocktail and dinner experience and the premiere of The New House of Tomorrow, a documentary capturing the thirty-year journey to restore the structure. The evening offered a unique opportunity to celebrate not just the finished work, but the persistence and collaboration behind it.
The House of Tomorrow stands today as both a historic landmark and a renewed source of inspiration. Celebrating its restoration alongside partners like Indiana Landmarks reinforces what drives our work every day – working with those who love their buildings.
