Project Overview

Berglund Construction completed an 11,500 sqft demolition and buildout of an existing space on the first floor of the Winter Haven Women’s Hospital.

The project scope included converting an abandoned one-day surgery unit into an emergency services unit and upgrading the men’s and women’s restrooms adjacent to the active hospital café. The triage and treatment area for emergency services now occupies the space where existing recovery rooms were located and the new triage includes a nurse station, six treatment bays and four treatment rooms. Additionally, four existing operating rooms were converted into storage.

The wall ratings that surround the existing operating rooms were upgraded to a one-hour fire-resistance rating. Doors were replaced with 45 minute rated doors, and existing mechanical ducts penetrating walls were fitted with one hour dampers at wall penetrations. All walls separating the corridor from the spaces adjacent to the new emergency services unit were upgraded to a fire resistance rating of one hour.
