Project Overview

Berglund helped modernize 14 public schools for the Public Building Commission of Chicago to prepare them for an influx of students at the start of the school year. Under a fast-rack, two-month summer schedule, $36 million worth of work was spread over the 14 schools. Full-time supervision on all schools was a Berglund priority, as it is with all of our projects.

Construction included the renovation of classrooms, gymnasiums, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, roofing and masonry repairs and upgrades of security and audio visual systems. Any return on savings was given back to Chicago Public Schools.

Outcome

The Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC) had set high goals to determine the success of the Summer Improvement Program. After the entire school revitalization project were completed, the PBC scored each of the Construction Management Teams and gave Berglund Construction the highest ranking. This top score was given by meeting the following: schedule / budget / MBE/WBE goals.
