Project Overview

This project involved the renovation of a 20,000 sqft patient wing into a state-of-the-art medically enhanced behavioral health unit. This transformation aimed to create a specialized environment that prioritizes the well-being and safety of patients.

Within the unit, we incorporated ten medically enhanced rooms, seven semi-private rooms, two seclusion rooms, a quiet room, two dining rooms, two multipurpose rooms, and six nurse stations. These features were designed to cater to the specific needs of behavioral health patients, providing a conducive setting for their treatment and recovery.

To ensure a high level of safety and security, various enhancements were implemented. The MEP fixtures were upgraded to be anti-ligature, reducing potential hazards. Additionally, card access and patient monitoring cameras were installed throughout the unit, enhancing security measures and enabling effective patient monitoring.

Patient safety was a paramount concern throughout the project. With this in mind, we replaced the patient room drywall with high impact materials to minimize damage risks. We also reconfigured the intake department, introduced storefront openings for improved accessibility, and implemented top-of-door alarm systems to enhance patient safety measures.

Collaboration with the Risk Assessment team was crucial to implementing safety measures tailored to behavioral health patients. By working closely with them, we ensured that all necessary precautions were taken to provide a secure environment for patients.

Throughout the project, our team at Berglund diligently managed self-performed tasks, ensuring that the project progressed according to schedule without compromising quality. We also held regular meetings with the owner and end user, allowing us to address any concerns and make necessary adjustments as the project neared completion.

The successful transformation of this patient wing into a medically enhanced behavioral health unit is a testament to our commitment to creating environments that prioritize patient well-being and foster healing and recovery. We are proud to have delivered exceptional results while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and satisfaction.
