Berglund executed restoration work which included reconstructing the building’s parapet walls and replacing the roof system.

Project Overview

Designed by Holabird and Roche, the original building was constructed between 1902 and 1904. Berglund Construction was hired in 2010 to reconstruct the building’s ornate brick masonry parapet walls and replace the roof system. The scope of work included repairing or replacing the building’s third floor cornice assembly replacement, with a new GFRC assembly, including terracotta hung window heads.

The ornate masonry was reconstructed in isolated areas with both reused pieces and replacement units. Berglund’s tuckpointers removed old mortar at the masonry joints and replaced it, and a new skylight system was installed.
