Project Overview

Phase 1 of the new campus finished at the beginning of 2023, and utilized as a training and ongoing education facility for Chicago’s first responders. The new building consolidates various existing public safety training facilities located throughout the City. Berglund was part of the JV that completed this project and took the large role of hiring and managing local subcontractors and trades-people along with MBE/WBE diversity requirements.

The Training Academy will now provide state-of-the-art indoor training spaces that will improve the current CPD and CFD training capabilities as well as offer more joint training opportunities. The main academy building is approximately 200,000 sqft, a multi-story building which includes the following amenities like a small public safety museum with CFD line-of-duty memorial badges display case - open to the public, administrative offices, classrooms, labs, simulator rooms, auditorium, gymnasium, locker rooms, storage and other miscellaneous support spaces.

Berglund Construction is honored to have contributed to deepen and strengthen the training capabilities of both new and current police officers, firefighters and paramedics, allowing for comprehensive cross-training among departments. This facility is an investment in the West Side of Chicago to bring improved connectivity between residents and public safety personnel. Not only will this facility increase job revenue, but will offer a new Girls and Boys Club, helping to break down the barriers of our urban youth. We are happy to be a part of such a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive project. The campus is located at is 4433 W. Chicago Ave in West Garfield Park, Chicago, on the site of an old railroad yard. This project received LEED Silver.
