Project Overview

GreatPoint Energy produces clean, low-cost natural gas from coal, petroleum coke and biomass utilizing its bluegas™ catalytic hydromethanation process. Working in conjunction with The Illinois Medical District Commission (IMDC), GreatPoint Energy selected Berglund Construction to provide construction management services for the expansion to their existing building at 2225 W. Harrison St. in Chicago.

The masonry and steel structure features high bay truss system that allowed for a modern and open interior workspace. Construction also included a Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) roof and a multi-medium exterior, which included glass, wood, metal panel and a wood-clad soffit. The unique TPO roof system features a slanted wooden clad susubstructure and a metal panel superstructure. The two-story, glass and brick extension of the Enterprise Center I — a 20,000-sqft building owned by the IMDC — will complete GreatPoint Energy’s relocation from Cambridge, MA to Chicago, IL. The expansion opened in May 2014.
