Project Overview

Berglund Construction was tapped to build a new 3,000 sqft Dairy Queen Grill and Chill at 235 US Highway 30 in Schererville, IN. Berglund participated in preconstruction efforts to help reduce costs of the overall project via value engineering. The Dairy Queen Grill and Chill is a wood framed building with full masonry brick veneer with decorative cornice.

Approach

The scope of work included actual building construction along with complete site utilities, asphalt parking lot, curbs and gutters and landscaping. The dining room can seat 70 people with additional seating on the outdoor patio. Building includes two restrooms, manager’s office, walk in cooler and freezer, dry storage area and two separate fully functional kitchens. One kitchen for the ice cream and treats and one for the hot food items. Project challenges included an accelerated four month completion schedule, tapping and bringing existing water and sewer utilities to the building from 300 hundred feet away, coordinating electrical services which resulted in having to bore existing electrical services from several hundred feet away and coordinating deliveries of owner supplied items and coordinating startups/commissioning of all equipment.
